Casino is one of France's leading retailers with its 1st Casino supermarket being opened in 1960. The group started its pan-international deployment in 1996.
Today the company owns and operates more than 9,200 hypermarkets (mostly Géant), supermarkets (Casino, Franprix, and Monoprix, to name a few), restaurants (Casino Cafétéria), convenience and discount stores (Leader Price).
Most of Casino stores are in France, but it has more than 1,300 outlets in 10 countries worldwide, including Brazil, the Netherlands, and Thailand. France's Rallye SA owns nearly 50% of Casino's shares. The group employs some 200,000 people worldwide. The total sales of the company in 2006 exceeded EUR 35 million.
The company is focused on local integration; that is why 59% of the Group’s hypermarkets and 39% of its supermarkets are located in local areas the population of which makes up to 20 million inhabitants.
