Nestlé with headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland was founded in 1866 by Henri Nestlé and is today the world's biggest food and beverage company.

The Company's products include beverages, baby foods, dairy products, breakfast cereals, ice cream, chocolate and confectionery, prepared foods, bottled water and pet care products. Nestlé is the world leader in coffee (Nescafé).  It is also one of the world's largest bottled water (Perrier) makers and is a top player in the pet food business (Ralston Purina). Its most well-known global brands include Buitoni, Friskies, Maggi, Nescafé, Nestea, and Nestlé. The company also owns Gerber Products and Jenny Craig. In addition to its own products, Nestlé owns about 75% of Alcon Inc. (ophthalmic drugs, contact-lens solutions, and equipment for ocular surgery) and some 28% of cosmetics giant L'Oréal.

The Company's areas of operations include Europe, the Americas, Asia, Oceania and Africa. Nestlé Waters is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company. On April 12, 2007, the Company acquired Gerber, the United Stated-based firm specialized in the provision of baby food, medical nutrition and weight management products. On July 1, 2007, the Company completed the acquisition of Novartis Medical Nutrition. In September 2007, Nestlé S.A. completed the acquisition of the Gerber baby foods business from Novartis AG. In September 2007, the Company acquired 61.66% interest in Sources Minerales Henniez.

Sales for 2006 were CHF 98.5 (EUR 61.2) billion. The company employs around 265,000 people and has factories or operations in almost every country in the world.
