Laurus ends fight, to sell Edah and Konmar stores

The Netherlands’s second biggest supermarket chain Laurus plans to sell more than half of its stores in a bid to stem losses and further streamline operations.

Laurus said it will dispose its Edah and Konmar Superstores due to tough market conditions and the lack of satisfactory results. Laurus owns 380 Super de Boer stores (including 191 affiliated independent retailers), 276 stores under the Edah format (including 51 independent retailers) and 44 Konmar supermarkets, including four independent shops. The planned sale of Edah and Konmar is expected to result in the loss of around 290 full-time jobs.
