Food discounter Penny, part of the German REWE Group has been started selling unlocked iPhones (Apple) in Austria. The telephones are free from any operator lock in.
Penny is selling the unlocked phones for €799, which is €50 more than in France where Orange sells the iPhones for €749. Several websites reveals one E-Leclerc store sells the newest gadget as well, although the French supermarket chain has no deal with Orange or Apple.
The iPhones will soon also be available in the German supermarket, Gravis, which has started talks with Apple partner T-Mobile for a sales agreement. Gravis’ plan to sell the iPhones before Christmas failed. Yet an arrangement is expected soon. T-Mobile is now selling iPhones as a two-year contract package. The iPhone, invention of the year 2007, was introduced in America this past summer.
