Supervalu sends jobs to India
Supermarket giant Supervalu Inc.,  which announced last November that it was opening an office in India, will be transferring almost 180 information technology jobs there over the next 20 months. Current employees will be able to apply for other jobs within the company. Those who are laid off will receive severance and outplacement assistance.

Supervalu recently conducted an assessment of work functions within its IT technical services group to determine how the company's associates in India can complete some of the critical work performed within this group," said Haley Meyer, a spokeswoman for the Eden Prairie-based company. "As a Fortune 50 company, having a multi-geographic workforce must be part of our strategy for us to succeed in today's competitive marketplace," Meyer added.

Supervalu owns more than a dozen grocery chains around the country, including Albertson's, Cub Foods, Acme and Jewel-Osco.
