Tesco to open retail units in Hungarian and Czech business districts
Due to the saturation of supermarkets in Hungary, Tecsco will begin opening Tesco Express retail units in the high streets of Hungary and the Czech Republic. Tesco is one of several companies that also develops central city sites and formats.

For example, one of its major and busiest stores in the Czech Republic is near the National Theatre in Prague, walking distance from the central business district, in a dense mixed use area, and atop a subway and on several tram lines; with practically no parking space for shoppers, this Tesco shop thrives almost entirely on pedestrian and public transport access. Tesco has a similar facility in Bratislava.

Tesco has been in Hungary since 1994, and is the country’s market leader. In February 2007, Tesco had 109 stores, including 72 hypermarkets and 43 petrol stations.

Tesco is Hungary's largest hypermarket retail chain and the second largest British investor in Hungary. The supermarket works with local suppliers including Aranynektár, Gilan, Foltin Globe or Bonbonetti.
