New flagship Dunnes Store opens in Dublin

A new flagship Dunnes Stores outlet was opened in the Henry Street area of Dublin's northside recently. The store is located on the site of the first-ever Dunnes shop in the capital, which opened 50 years ago.

Two hundred and ten people will be employed at the store, which is the 135th Dunnes outlet in Ireland. Dunnes Stores is Ireland's largest retailer, with stores in England, Scotland and Spain.

Not widely know outside the UK, Dunnes is similar in format to Marks and Spencer, with a grocery supermarket operating alongside a clothing/textiles store. The grocery operation only operates in Irish stores, although some limited grocery ranges can be found in the Spanish stores. Some stores contain only textiles, while some contain only a supermarket.
