Albertsons discards loyalty card
U.S. supermarket chain Albertsons decided to cancel its loyalty card program for the 78 stores of its Southwest division, which is part of the private company Albertsons LLC. The stores – which are located in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas – replaced the ‘Preferred Savings Card program’ by on-shelf ‘Bonus Buys’ promotions available to all shoppers.

Albertsons LLC was formed last year and include the stores that were excluded from Supervalu's purchase of the broader Albertsons chain. Albertsons LLC is a separate company from Supervalu, which runs 532 Albertsons stores across the country. According to a spokesperson from Albertsons LLC, the company evaluated the card programme and decided to terminate it in order to offer bargains to all customers – not just cardholders.
