Consum acquires Dinosol in Catalonia
Spanish retailer's cooperative Consum acquires the 53 Supersol supermarkets chain from Dinosol in Catalonia in order to expand its operations in the region. Cost of the acquisition has not yet been revealed.

With this move, which is part of its strategic disinvestment plans, Dinosol divests its operations in the north of Spain to concentrate in the Mediterranean area and the Canary Islands. In these regions Dinosol is market leader with over 570 stores in different formats: supermarkets, cash & carries and convenience stores.

Consum is a Valencia-based cooperative which over the last years has become one of the leading retailers in the area of Valencia, Cataluña, Murcia, Castilla La Mancha and Andalucía. In 2004 Consum terminated its partnership the Basque retailer Eroski. Today the group has 430 supermarkets and discount stores under the banners Consum and Consum Basic. It also franchises 122 smaller Charter supermarkets. The acquisition of Supersol supermarkets allows Consum to grow in the north and consolidate its presence in Catalonia.
