'Wal-Mart among bidders for Makro Malaysia'

Local media report that large retailers like Wal-Mart, Metro Group and Costco are interested in acquiring Makro in Malaysia. Last August 29 Makro’s parent company SHV Holdings n.v. announced its intention to sell its controlling 65 per cent share. Hongkong-based Dairy Farm and Britains leading retailer Tesco are also among the interested parties. The latter two are already represented in Malaysia.

The Malaysian newspaper Business Times states that apart from the multinational retailers also local retailers as well as regional private equity firms are interested. The leading bidders are however the mentioned leading retailers whose executives apparently visited the Malaisian Makro stores recently. The bidding process for the eight stores started on September 4 and will close at the end of this month.
