Casino posts 15.8% Q2 sales growth

French retailer Casino’s international sales helped boost its second-quarter performance as sales rose 15.8 per cent year on year, with group sales reaching €6.12 billion. Sales at its home market reached €4.32 billion, up 3.7 per cent from the €4.16 billion it reported a year ago.

Casino’s hypermarket sales rose by 2.8 per cent, while convenience stores posted a 5.3 per cent growth. Sales at discount chains went up by 0.5 per cent. The retailer attributed the growth to a solid performance delivered by its hyper and supermarkets. On a same-store basis, hypermarket sales went up 2.8 per cent. Sales at Casino’s discount stores were lower, down by 4.2 per cent for Franprix and a 8.8 per cent decline for Leader Price. Overseas, Latin America and Asia Latin America performed well with sales in Latin America growing by 3.7 and a 16.7 per cent growth in Asia. Both regions accounted for two thirds of sales. Sales in the US sales went up by 2.7 per cent, while sales in Poland rose 17.1 per cent.
