Rewe opens Selgros in Moscow
Rewe is further establishing itself in Russia with the opening of its first Selgros Cash & Carry market in Kotelniki, in the greater Moscow area. It will offer an extensive assortment of food and non-food products at wholesale prices 24 hours per day on more than 10,000 square meters of selling space. In addition to well-known international brand products, it will provide a wide range of local and regional goods.
The project has cost about €20 million and will create 350 new jobs. Further cash & carry markets within Russia are in the pipeline.
The Rewe Group currently operates 73 Selgros Cash & Carry markets in Germany (44), Romania (17) and Poland (12). The new Selgros Cash & Carry in Kotelniki is the 30th market outside Germany. It uses "a card system" and has about 4 million customers around Europe particularly in the areas of catering, the hotel business, retailing, kiosks, filling-station shops, party service, large kitchens, canteens, service providers and all commercial consumers.
At the same time the Rewe Group is also preparing for expansion in the discount segment with the appointment of two additional board members: Armin Rehbert, formerly CEO of local food discounter Norma, will be responsible for the discount segment, and Frank Wiemer who will oversee the logistics side of the business.
