Somerfield stores are back up for grabs
The sale of 107 Somerfield stores, purchased last month by the Co-operative Group, is being handled by Credit Suisse which has requested that potential bidders offer up proposals before 22 August.
A Co-op spokesman declined to comment on the detail but said: "We have written to a number of parties seeking expressions of interest." The Co-op is looking to work with the Office of Fair Trading to resolve competition issues.
It has been suggested that the supermarket groups Asda, J Sainsbury and Wm Morrison could be interested in buying the 107 outlets. Asda, owned by WalMart, and J Sainsburys, are also believed to have considered bidding for some of the outlets.
