Russian retailers Pyaterochka and Perekriostok are negotiating an intended merger. Pyaterochka confirmed this in a press release today. “Pyaterochka Holding confirms that it is in discussion with Perekriostok, Russia’s leading supermarket operator, which may lead to a merger of the two businesses.”
Both retailers refuse further comments up to now. According to figures from PlanetRetail, Pyaterochka operates 5 hypermarkets and 710 supermarkets in Russia with total sales in 2005 of €1,676mn (US$2,084mn). Perekriostok operates in Russia 5 hypermarkets/superstores, 120 supermarkets and 8 discount stores with total sales of €981mn (US$1,163mn). Abroad, Pyaterochka operates in Kazakhstan and the Ukraine. Perekriostok is also represented in the Ukraine.
