Ito-Yokado to open new stores in Beijing
Japanese supermarket operator Ito-Yokado Co.'s Chinese subsidiary Hua Tang Yokado Commercial Co. has said it will open three new supermarkets in Beijing and one in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, this year.
After the increase, the number of Hua Tang Yokado's outlets will rise to 10 in Beijing, and to four in Chengdu. The company said it will consider opening stores in other cities as well.
Ito-Yokado, under the patronage of Japanese retail giant Seven & i Holdings Co., opened its first Chinese outlet in Beijing in April 1998. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of its operation in China, Ito-Yokado set up a charity fund worth 15 million yen to provide textbooks to elementary schools in poor neighborhoods in Beijing suburbs.
