Yoghurt is a Dutch treat

Figures show that the Netherlands consumers far and away the most yoghurt of any European nation- some 1.6 kilos per capita more than inhabitants of runner-up Finland.

These two are followed by the French, with a respectable 20.70 kgs per capita, Germany- some way behind- with 15.24 and Austria with 13.00 kgs. The Italians and Eastern Europeans clearly aren’t keen on the runny stuff, with Poland and Hungary at the bottom of the table, with figures of 4.82, 2.70 and 3.54 respectively.
Interestingly, the British aren’t eating much either- unusual given that their reputation as a daily-product producing nation.
In all other cases, however, the conclusion seems to be that hose other countries with thriving dairy industries are consuming the most yoghurt. The easier it is to make it, then, the easier to eat it.
