Ministerial visit for VanDrie Group

Ministerial visit for VanDrie Group

On Saturday 13 October 2007, the Dutch Agriculture Minister Gerda Verburg was present for the opening of the Anuga trade fair in Cologne, and took the opportunity to pay a visit to the VanDrie Group stand while she was there.

Henny Swinkels asked for support from the Dutch government in opening up export markets for veal outside Europe. Minister Verburg is due to visit China in the short term, and agreed to raise the veal issue with her Chinese opposite number. Interest in Dutch veal is on the increase in China, especially with the prospect of the 2008 Olympic Games just around the corner.

The Minister will cite the case of the reopening of the market for Dutch veal in Saudi Arabia, after the BSE crisis in 1996.
