Coca-Cola to raise prices after Q2 loss

Coca-Cola Enterprises has reported a net loss of US$3.2 billion for the second quarter of 2008. The company has said that due to soaring commodity costs and declining US soda sales, that it would raise product prices by a mid-single digit to high single-digit percentage in early September.

John Brock, chairman and CEO of Coca-Cola Enterprises, said: "Over the past two years, we have implemented a new, global operating framework that is strengthening our company. In North America, we have developed a stronger brand portfolio through the addition of Glaceau, Fuze, and Campbell's, and heightened efficiency and effectiveness through new programs, including initiatives to transform our go-to-market model."

In order to improve performance in the US, the company will also put into motion required changes, according to Brock. As Coca-Cola Enterprises reviews its supply chain, operations and price strategy, analysts speculate that Coca-Cola may also hike prices on the concentrate it supplies to the bottlers.
